Following last year’s release of the AF 85mm f/1.4 FE for the Sony E Mount, Samyang/Rokinon today unveiled a version of the lens for Canon’s full-frame mirrorless RF Mount. According to Rokinon, the new AF 85mm f/1.4 RF is “arguably the best value, high performance and affordable autofocusing portrait prime available.”

Optically, the Samyang/Rokinon AF 85mm f/1.4 RF looks to be identical to the Sony FE version. There are 11 elements in 8 groups, including 1 Extra Low Dispersion (ED) element and 4 High Refractive Index (HRI) elements to cut down on chromatic aberration and allow for a smaller lens design, respectively, as well as the company’s Ultra Multi Coating (UMC) to eliminate ghosting and flare.

The lens boasts a 9-blade circular aperture, and the only ‘decoration’ on the lens barrel is the AF/MF mode switch. For autofocus, the lens uses a Dual Linear Sonic Motor (DLSM), which you can see demonstrated in the video below created for the Sony FE lens launch:

Tokina atx-m Lineup

The Tokina ATX line of lenses is out for a couple of years now, and the most famous one is probably the AT-X 11-16mm F/2.8 wide-angle zoom lens for Super35 cameras. Today, Tokina has just announced the launch of a new lineup of lenses for mirrorless cameras with the Tokina atx-m 85mm F/1.8 FE. According to Tokina, the atx-m series of glasses will be available in various mounts – probably Nikon Z and Canon RF mounts – and new lenses will be announced this year.

Sigma 135mm 1.8, 14mm 1.4, and 70mm 2.8 Art & Contemporary Lenses for Sony E-Mount Now Shipping

Gear  Comments Off on Sigma 135mm 1.8, 14mm 1.4, and 70mm 2.8 Art & Contemporary Lenses for Sony E-Mount Now Shipping
Aug 112018

Sigma announced in February that their ART and Contemporary lenses would be coming to E-mount to a warranted level of excitement, but the wait for delivery has been rough on some. That wait, however, was over in June when Sigma started shipping the first 5 of the 9 announced E-mount lenses, and now three more are ready to go: 14mm F1.8 DG HSM, 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO, and 135mm F1.8 DG HSM Art lenses for Sony E-mount.

The Sigma Art lenses have been prized for their optical performance which should see no change in the native e-mount versions, but some of the other performance abilities have been dampened on Sony units due to the required Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. Sigma claims these abilities that should be realized in full with the new native models:

“…the new Sony E-mount models feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses are compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by Sigma Mount Converter MC-11. Like MC-11, the lenses are compatible with in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion.”

SIGMA Unveils New Art Lenses for Sony E-Mount

Gear  Comments Off on SIGMA Unveils New Art Lenses for Sony E-Mount
Mar 112018

Hot on the heels of this year’s CP+, which took place in Japan, our own Johnnie Behiri had the opportunity to chat with SIGMA’s Yamaki-san about the brand-new lineup of native Art lenses for Sony E-mount.

SIGMA’s lineup of Art labled lenses is extremely popular due to excellent optical performance and build quality. But although these lenses are available for a range of mounts including Canon, Nikon, Sony A and SIGMA, you couldn’t get a native SIGMA Art lens for Sony E-mount. Until now.
