If you value endgame-performance and money is nothing to worry about, Cooke has everything you need when it comes to cine lenses. At this year’s IBC, the company had two new lenses on display: The Cooke S7/i 16mm T2.0 Full Frame Plus (spherical) prime and the Cooke Anamorphic/i 135mm T2.3 cine prime. High-end glass for the high-end cine market.

Yeah, I know. I won’t spend a cool $25.000 on a single lens, either. But there is a high-end, money-no-object market in which you just want to get that perfect shot. Check out the shotoncooke.comwebsite for a brief overview of productions shot on Cooke glass. Do you want that Cooke-look? Well, you better get some Cooke glass, then! At this year’s IBC, Cooke introduces two new primes to their lineup.

SIRUI 50mm f/1.8 1.33x Lens Announced – Affordable APS-C Anamorphic Lens

Cinematography, Gear  Comments Off on SIRUI 50mm f/1.8 1.33x Lens Announced – Affordable APS-C Anamorphic Lens
Sep 162019

SIRUI announced their new 50mm f/1.8 1.33x anamorphic lens during this year’s IBC show in Amsterdam. The lens produces image circle covering APS-C sensors and will come in versions with Sony-FE mount, FUJIFILM X-mount, and Micro four thirds mount. Compared to other anamorphic lenses, it will be very affordable.

Anamorphic lenses can produce unique images with special characteristics (lens flares, oval bokeh, etc) and that’s why they are very popular for certain genres. For years, there have only been very expensive anamorphic lenses on the market and the only affordable alternative was to use an anamorphic adapter (like this one from SLR magic). This is changing and there are more and more affordable anamorphic lenses available. My colleague Gunther recently reviewed the VAZEN anamorphic 1.8x 40mm T2 lens fo M4/3 cameras. SIRUI is now introducing their own anamorphic lens.

Atlas Lens Co. New Orion 25mm T/2.0 Anamorphic Lens and LF Extender

Cinematography, Gear  Comments Off on Atlas Lens Co. New Orion 25mm T/2.0 Anamorphic Lens and LF Extender
Apr 242019

Wide-angle anamorphic lenses, and especially 2X ones, are not easy to manufacture and usually comes at a high price. During NAB 2019 we had a chance to talk with Dan Kanes from Atlas Lens Co. about two new exciting products: an Orion 25mm T/2.0 anamorphic lens and an LF Extender.

Atlas Lens Co. Orion 25mm T/2.0

If you are not familiar with Atlas Lens Co., the young American company is specialized in anamorphic lenses. In 2017, they released a 2X anamorphic lens set called Orion. There are six lenses in total; they are all T/2.0 aperture and range from 32mm up to 100mm. However, a wide-angle anamorphic prime was missing, and it looks like the set will soon expand to seven lenses with a new 25mm T/2.0 anamorphic prime.

This new Orion 25mm T/2.0 anamorphic lens is a unique lens. Indeed, the lens features very low distortion, which is familiar with wide-angle anamorphic lenses. The front of the lens is 134mm wide, and the lens mount is interchangeable from PL-Mount to EF-Mount. While it is still a prototype – Atlas Lens Co. built it two weeks before the show – the build quality looks fantastic, like every other Orion lens.

There are not a lot of info around this new lens, we don’t know when it will be available, but expect the price to be around $8000 to $10.000.

Apple, Gear  Comments Off on Moment Introduces an Anamorphic Lens For Premium Smartphones
Apr 022018

Moment presents their new Kickstarter campaign: The Filmmaker Collection for smartphones which includes some goodies to transform your phone into a “filmmaking machine”. We all know that a real anamorphic lens costs a fortune and as the pursuit for flares never stops, maybe now we can afford it – at least for our smartphone – as the crown jewel of their kit is the anamorphic lens.

The Filmmaker Collection

The Filmmaker Collection by Moment, which is now on Kickstarter, includes an iPhoneX battery case, universal gimbal counterweight, filter mount and an anamorphic lens. I must admit that every product in the collection looks solid and when combined it looks rather cool, but of course the highlight of this kit is the supplied anamorphic lens.
